It is known that earlier societies, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldhistory.org\/trans\/es\/1-13864\/cultura-wari\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Huari or Wari<\/a>, established passable routes connecting their administrative and religious centres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Secondary roads<\/strong> were mapped out in association with the Great Road, with the most famous being the Inca Trail \u2014 <strong>leading to Machu Picchu<\/strong> over four days of strenuous hiking, covering more than 40 kilometres of adventure, including an ascent to 4,215 m a.s.l. at the<strong> Warmiwa\u00f1usca Pass<\/strong> (which translates to &#8216;Dead Woman&#8217; in English).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But that\u2019s not all. <strong>There are also mule paths<\/strong> winding their way to archaeological sites, remote communities, and the sacred peaks of Ausangate and Salkantay, mountains that continue to be revered by the children of the Andes. <strong>The challenge is set<\/strong>. Be cautious and don\u2019t rush your pace, as the so-called <strong>&#8220;Archaeological Capital of America&#8221;<\/strong> sits at an altitude of 3,400 m a.s.l.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your body isn\u2019t well acclimatised, quickening your pace around the Plaza de Armas,<strong> the artisan neighbourhood of San Blas<\/strong>, or the Hatun Rumiyoq Street, to name just a few iconic spots, might lead to dizziness, shortness of breath, and headaches, among other symptoms of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msdmanuals.com\/es-pe\/professional\/lesiones-y-envenenamientos\/enfermedad-de-la-altura\/enfermedad-de-la-altura\">acute mountain sickness<\/a>, also known as <strong>soroche or altitude sickness.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s a simple tip to fully enjoy your adventures in the<strong> &#8220;Historic Capital of Peru,&#8221;<\/strong> as stated in Article 49 of the Political Constitution. This city is so significant that, according to myths and legends, it was founded by <a href=\"https:\/\/americanindian.si.edu\/caminoinka\/ancestors\/creationstories\/children-sun.html\">Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo<\/a>, the children of the Sun who emerged from Lake Titicaca to create a civilization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That was the task given to them by their father Inti (the Sun in English). This marked the beginning of a people who, <strong>between the 12th and 16th centuries<\/strong>, extended their dominion over areas of what are now Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, and Argentina.
